Technological substitution project: Medellín – Bogotá highway, energy savings of approximately 50%, avoiding 5,500 TON CO2-eq. This reduction in energy consumption is equivalent to that of 6,400 homes in the city of Medellin.

This road corridor connects the two main cities of the country and is operated by DEVIMED, a concession in charge of its maintenance and administration, from Medellín to the municipality of El Santuario.
Being such an important road and with traffic flow 24 hours a day, it is important to guarantee adequate lighting conditions to contribute to the improvement of user safety and comfort.
However, the lighting of the road presented an opportunity for improvement in terms of its technology, in such a way that it would improve lighting levels and save energy, contributing to being a more environmentally sustainable service and safer for drivers.
Among the services offered by Azimut Energía is Technological Substitution through PCA (Payment with Savings) models, which, basically, is to give the client the opportunity to obtain state-of-the-art technology for their buildings or projects, while energy savings pay for the investment. .
In a team with DEVIMED and its Autopista Medellín – Bogotá project, Azimut manages to replace approximately 3,400 sodium lamps with LED lamps on the road and in the tunnels. There were about 41 kilometers of single carriageway and 9 kilometers of double carriageway and, specifically, 300 LED lights in the central separator of the three tunnels.
With this, it was possible to reduce energy consumption and improve lighting levels, which translates into greater safety for users of this important highway.
The design, supply and installation of 3,500 luminaires was carried out throughout the road corridor that was lit with a technology with lower performance. This made it possible to go from color rendering indexes between 8% and 20% to values higher than 85%.
